About the position

As a Robotics Engineer - Next-Gen Systems, you will play a pivotal role in the development of state-of-the-art general-purpose robots that are designed to operate seamlessly in human environments and interact with human tools. This position requires a multidisciplinary approach, where you will be involved in the entire lifecycle of robotic systems, from initial prototypes to fully realized products. Your work will encompass conceptual hardware and software design, technical analysis, and physics-based simulations of next-generation robotic systems. In this role, you will conduct engineering trade studies that will inform critical system architectural decisions, ensuring that our robots are not only innovative but also practical and efficient. You will be expected to leverage your diverse engineering skills across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines, acting as a technical "Swiss Army Knife" to tackle the multifaceted challenges of robotic development. Your contributions will directly impact the design and functionality of robots that are intended to work alongside humans, enhancing their capabilities and improving overall productivity. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in first-principles engineering analysis, allowing you to quantitatively assess the balance between performance, cost, and lead times in robotic systems. You will also be responsible for generating conceptual designs, performing complex physics-based simulations, and researching subsystem interfaces, specifications, and APIs. Documentation of your findings and designs will be crucial to ensure clarity and continuity throughout the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first-principles engineering analysis of robotic systems to map the quantitative balance between multi-dimensional performance, cost, and lead times
  • Generate conceptual designs of next-gen systems
  • Perform physics-based simulations of complex kinematic/dynamic mechanisms
  • Research/analyze sub-system interface definitions, specifications, and APIs
  • Document engineering analyses and designs

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Robotics or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in robotic/automated system development
  • Mechanical skills: Kinematics, dynamics, machine design, 3D CAD
  • Electrical skills: Basic circuit design, electromechanical design skills
  • Controls skills: Closed-loop control, linear systems analysis, state estimation
  • Software skills: Proficiency in Python, C++, and ROS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
