About the position

The Robotics Engineer at Medra will focus on developing robotic solutions that enhance laboratory automation, enabling scientists to concentrate on significant scientific discoveries. This role involves creating algorithms for robotic systems, integrating computer vision, and collaborating with partner scientists to streamline their processes. The position is crucial for advancing Medra's mission of making lab automation accessible to every scientist.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robotic solutions to manipulate and control biology tools designed for humans.
  • Implement motion planning algorithms to avoid collisions in complex environments.
  • Utilize computer vision to interact with consumables and equipment used by humans.
  • Integrate, test, and debug software solutions in both simulation and on physical robots.
  • Collaborate with partner scientists to understand their processes and guide the implementation of solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and building algorithms for robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with robot arm manipulators.
  • Proficient in Python programming language.
  • Relevant research or work experience in machine learning, computer vision, motion planning, kinematics, dynamics, control, or state estimation/SLAM.
  • Experience with software engineering tools and best practices in production.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with robotic simulation systems such as PyBullet or MuJoCo.
  • Experience with robotics in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with mechanical design tools and methodologies (e.g., Solidworks).
  • Understanding of software communication protocols (e.g., ZMQ, Redis, gRPC).
  • Contribution to software for a hardware product that has shipped.
