About the position

The Robotics Mechanical Plastics Design Engineer at Tesla will focus on the design and development of plastic components for the Tesla Bot. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to create innovative solutions that enhance the functionality and performance of robotic systems. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that designs meet both aesthetic and functional requirements while adhering to Tesla's high standards of quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop plastic components for the Tesla Bot.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and design reviews to ensure product viability.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed design specifications and prototypes.
  • Test and validate designs through simulations and physical testing.
  • Optimize designs for manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in robotics or automotive industries.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Strong understanding of materials science, particularly plastics.
  • Experience with design validation and testing methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with injection molding processes.
  • Familiarity with robotics systems and automation.
  • Knowledge of design for assembly (DFA) principles.
