About the position

This design optimizes perception, scalability, and maintainability, allowing us to deliver freight daily for some of the largest names in trucking and most recognizable brands across the country. We are currently seeking a Software Engineer with a focus on Onboard Infrastructure and Drivers. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with engineers from various domains to build the Kodiak real-time operating system that empowers our autonomous vehicles. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing our core infrastructure and libraries using modern C++, as well as building highly reliable and performant compute and network systems. You will work closely with next-generation LIDARs, cameras, radars, and other sensors, gathering metrics, analyzing, and optimizing the operation of Kodiak's autonomous systems. This position is crucial for ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our technology as we continue to innovate in the autonomous freight space.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple domains to build the Kodiak real-time operating system.
  • Design and implement core infrastructure and libraries using modern C++.
  • Build highly reliable and performant compute and network systems.
  • Work closely with next-generation LIDARs, cameras, radars, and other sensors.
  • Gather metrics, analyze, and optimize the operation of Kodiak autonomous systems.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or equivalent in Computer Science or similar field.
  • 4+ years of experience building software infrastructure in a high-scale and high-performance environment.
  • Experience reading and writing modern C++ code.
  • Familiarity with using Linux to build complex software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of network protocols such as TCP, UDP, and PTP.
  • Experience working with sensors like LIDARs, cameras, and radars.
  • Familiarity with high throughput storage and database systems.
  • Knowledge of tools used for performance optimization like perf, trace tools, and memory profilers.
  • Experience using Bazel for large and cross-platform projects.
  • A background in operating systems or build systems.
