About the position

The Software Engineer at Smith+Nephew will engage in the complete software development life-cycle, from requirement review to design, implementation, unit testing, and integration testing. This role emphasizes creating user-friendly software products that enhance customer satisfaction and involves visiting clinical environments to gain insights into the clinical context. The engineer will work in an Agile/Scrum environment, focusing on engineering excellence and best practices while contributing to the design and maintenance of large-scale distributed systems software.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design, development, and maintenance of large scale and distributed systems software.
  • Investigate design approaches, prototype concepts, and evaluate technical feasibility.
  • Continuously monitor industry for best practices and drive a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment and deliver high-quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Embrace engineering processes to improve quality, customer experience, and product/market fit.
  • Ensure robust design, unit testing, code review, and integration testing practices are followed.
  • Create requirement documentation and automate the documentation process using tools such as Doxygen.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields preferred.
  • Internship experience in software engineering.
  • Knowledge of C++ and other object-oriented languages.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, including internals of Linux.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Background in computer vision.
  • Knowledge of software tools such as GIT, JIRA, and build tools like Make and CMake.
  • Ability to describe design using UML.
