About the position

The Robotics Software Engineer position at the University of Maryland focuses on supporting the development of autonomous Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) using drones to assist first responders in urban environments. The role involves collaboration with faculty and student researchers at the Maryland Robotics Center, contributing to various projects that integrate aerial and ground robots. The successful candidate will also receive training as a professional Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) pilot and participate in field experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Support UROC's lead Project Engineer and faculty researchers in developing autonomous Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) using drones.
  • Collaborate with student researchers on various robotics projects at the Maryland Robotics Center.
  • Develop software for autonomous MAS in MRC-led projects involving aerial and ground robots.
  • Participate in field experiments and operations related to MRC-focused projects.
  • Leverage autonomy algorithms and 5G networks for command and control in drone operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience (2-year degree plus two years of relevant experience or no degree plus four years of relevant experience).
  • Two years of experience in software development, which can include student experience.
  • Availability to travel up to 20% of the time.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of software experience (professional or student/academic) including Robot Operating System (ROS) or similar robotics software.
  • Proficiency in C and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with Git and Docker.
  • Hands-on experience working with robotics systems, particularly drones.
