About the position

The Robotics Software Engineering Intern at Smith+Nephew will collaborate with the Robotics New Product Development team to contribute to the development of next-generation surgical robotics products. This internship involves engaging in the entire software development life-cycle, including requirement reviews, design implementation, unit testing, and integration testing. The intern will work closely with managers on specific projects and present their findings to senior leadership, while also creating necessary documentation as per the Robotics Quality Management System.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the entire software development life-cycle including reviewing requirements, design, implementation, unit testing, and integration testing.
  • Work closely with managers to complete specifically identified internship projects.
  • Present project conclusions to senior leadership.
  • Create documentation as required by the Smith and Nephew Robotics Quality Management System.

Requirements

  • Currently matriculated or within a year of matriculation in an accredited university majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Excellent academic standing with a preferred minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Previous applicable intern, co-op, part-time, or apprenticeship experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of C++ and other object-oriented languages is preferred.
  • Ability to describe design using UML is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing, listening, and speaking; ability to influence others.
  • High learning agility with the ability to analyze and synthesize data and present it to senior leaders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive project completion.
  • Independent thinking and the ability to work within a team is required.
  • Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions using an analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, multiple tasks, assignment changes, and a rapidly changing workload.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with UML design.
  • Experience in project management.
