About the position

The internship at Komatsu will be based in our Warrendale, PA office for the summer of 2025. As a Robotics Software Intern, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for developing core Robotics Automation & Autonomy software specifically tailored for underground mining applications. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that leverage advanced technologies to enhance safety and productivity in the mining sector. You will gain hands-on experience in developing software for various underground machines, including continuous miners and longwall systems, which are critical to the efficiency of mining operations. Throughout your internship, you will specialize in contributing to the development of the core Autonomy software stack for products that operate globally. This position will allow you to deepen your understanding of perception, mapping, and localization techniques in environments where GPS signals are unavailable. You will also work with various robotic sensors, including lidars, radars, and cameras, which are essential for the functionality of autonomous systems. Additionally, you will analyze real-world data to fine-tune software and algorithms, ensuring optimal performance in challenging conditions. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable insights into the intersection of robotics and mining technology, preparing you for a successful career in this dynamic field.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of core Autonomy software stack for underground mining applications.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • Currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Robotics Systems Development, Robotics, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • Proven strengths in robotics systems and software development.
  • Strong programming skills in C++ and C.
