About the position

OffWorld is a robotics startup focused on developing a mobile robotic workforce for heavy industrial jobs on Earth, the Moon, asteroids, and Mars. Founded by an experienced engineering team with a rich background in tackling formidable engineering challenges at organizations such as NASA, ESA, NOAA, Maxar Technologies, CERN, Reaction Engines, SAFRAN, Surrey Satellites, and Cisco, OffWorld aims to revolutionize the way we approach dangerous industrial tasks. The company's first challenge is to develop and mature a modular robotic system capable of operating in extreme environments on Earth. These robots are designed to go deeper underground and farther than humans can, effectively eliminating the need for human presence in life-threatening environments found in mining, construction, tunneling, and other hazardous industries. This innovation not only aims to enhance safety but also to significantly reduce the environmental footprint and operational costs in key economies on Earth and beyond. The modular robotic architecture developed by OffWorld emphasizes maximizing commonality and reusability across components, facilitating fast deployment and optimization. The robotic systems integrate sensor information with cutting-edge classical and machine learning algorithms, alongside a real-time system platform for control, decision-making, and execution. OffWorld is currently seeking a talented and motivated Robotics Test & Integration Engineer to join its fast-moving team dedicated to creating advanced robotic and space systems. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing testing and integration activities that encompass virtual tests (e.g., simulation), subsystem and system testing of robotic platforms at both testing facilities and field-deployed sites, including open-pit and subterranean mines. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including robotics engineers, software developers, and project managers, to ensure that testing, integration, and overall development goals are met to the highest standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed test plans, test cases, and test scripts, ensuring adequate coverage of all robotic system components and functionalities.
  • Coordinate and execute testing activities, including functional testing, regression testing, performance testing, and stress testing.
  • Identify opportunities for test automation and develop automated test scripts using appropriate tools and frameworks.
  • Continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of testing processes through automation.
  • Analyze test results and prepare comprehensive test reports, documenting any defects, issues, or areas of improvement.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures, configurations, and test environments.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements, resolve issues, and ensure alignment between development and testing activities.
  • Communicate testing progress, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in robotics testing methodologies, tools, and technologies.
  • Identify areas for process improvement, propose innovative solutions, and drive the implementation of best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, robotics, or software/electrical/mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in mobile and/or manipulator robotics, or similar.
  • 2+ years of hands-on testing of mobile and/or manipulator robots.
  • Strong knowledge of robotic systems, sensors, perception, and control algorithms across software, hardware, and integrated-system development.
  • Proficient in programming languages commonly used in robotics, such as C++, Python, or Java.
  • Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar robotics middleware.
  • Experience with robotics simulation environments, such as ROS Gazebo, and scenario-based regression testing.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, git, docker, and Linux command-line operations and debugging.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with the capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks based on project goals and timelines.
  • Ability to travel regionally and internationally approximately 15% of the time.
  • Self-driven, passionate, and constantly pursuing knowledge and excellence.
