About the position

Steptoe LLP, a prestigious Am Law 100 law firm located in Washington, DC, is seeking a dedicated Paralegal to join its Complex Litigation Support Center in Rockville, Maryland. This position is integral to assisting attorneys with complex civil litigation document and workflow procedures. The Paralegal will play a crucial role in managing and organizing legal documents, ensuring that all information is accurately extracted and entered into a custom-built database. This role requires a keen attention to detail and the ability to maintain measured workflow expectations, which are essential for the successful handling of complex litigation cases. In addition to document management, the Paralegal will also serve as a backup receptionist when necessary, coordinating reception coverage to ensure smooth operations within the office. Responsibilities may include preparing travel and check request documents, updating various office lists and logs, and maintaining up-to-date vendor information. The Paralegal will also be tasked with coding and sending all accounts payable invoices to the DC office for payment, assisting the Administrative Attorney with the maintenance of administrative files, and managing inventory and orders for office forms. Furthermore, the Paralegal may be required to learn about MMSEA filing requirements and assist with research and resolution of invoicing issues, completing other duties as assigned. This position demands a proactive individual who can work effectively under tight deadlines and in stressful situations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. The work environment is non-smoking, and the Paralegal will be expected to work in the office from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Review documents in a custom-built database to extract information and input it into the database
  • Maintain measured workflow expectations
  • Serve as backup receptionist when necessary and coordinate reception coverage
  • Prepare travel and check request documents as needed
  • Update various Steptoe office lists and logs
  • Keep all vendor information up to date
  • Code and send all A/P invoices to the DC office for payment
  • Assist Administrative Attorney with maintenance of all administrative files
  • Keep inventory and order all office forms (taxi vouchers, messenger and overnight delivery)
  • Learn MMSEA filing requirements and update database Medicare fields as needed
  • Research and resolve issues with invoicing
  • Complete other duties as assigned
