About the position

Nucor Steel Kankakee is seeking a strong candidate for the position of Process Engineer in the Rolling Mill. The successful candidate will be a safety-minded, goal-oriented, cost and quality-driven individual committed to taking care of our customers. In this role, the Process Engineer will actively assist the team with process and product development, troubleshooting upset conditions, and using statistical methods and data to guide decision-making. The candidate will lead safety, cost, quality, and efficiency improvement efforts while working closely with operations, maintenance, and IT teams to ensure optimal roll mill performance. The Process Engineer will also be responsible for developing and leading process-specific training to expand the technical steelmaking knowledge of our team. This position will involve leading the justification, installation, and commissioning of capital projects, ensuring that all processes align with the company's goals for safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in rolling mill operations and a proven track record in project management, making them a key player in driving improvements and innovations within the facility.

Responsibilities

• Assist the team with process and product development in the Rolling Mill.
• Troubleshoot upset conditions using statistical methods and data analysis.
• Lead safety, cost, quality, and efficiency improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and IT teams to ensure optimal roll mill performance.
• Develop and lead process-specific training for team members.
• Lead the justification, installation, and commissioning of capital projects.

Requirements

• Minimum 5+ years previous Rolling Mill experience.
• Minimum 3+ years previous experience in project management.
• Must have supervisor and manager recommendation and must be able to perform all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree (preferably in Engineering or Metallurgy).
• Previous experience in capital projects and process optimization.
