About the position

Waste Connections is seeking a safety-conscious Local CDL Rolloff Driver to join our growing team in Wichita, Kansas. This position involves operating a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste, ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. As a Rolloff Driver, you will be responsible for reading route sheets and servicing each customer as identified by the dispatcher. You will perform routine inspections and maintenance on your vehicle, ensuring that it is safe and ready for operation. The job is physically demanding, requiring heavy lifting and the ability to load and unload refuse, often without assistance. You will also operate hydraulic hand controls to lift and load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities. Courteous interaction with customers is essential, as is the ability to perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. The working conditions involve extensive physical activity, including heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds. You will be exposed to outside weather conditions, including frequent wet and/or humid conditions, as well as fumes and vibrations from the vehicle. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and adherence to safety precautions is crucial to mitigate risks associated with moving mechanical parts.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste.
  • Read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the dispatcher.
  • Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
  • Load and unload refuse, often without assistance, while performing a physically demanding job.
  • Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.
  • Interact courteously with customers and perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement as a minimum.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English.
  • Basic knowledge of truck components to complete pre and post-trip inspections.
  • Ability to work Monday - Saturday.

Nice-to-haves
