About the position

The Youth Career Coach at Eastern Mexico University plays a vital role in providing job readiness training and coaching to adolescents, focusing on individual mentoring and post-secondary support services. This position is part of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) initiative, which aims to assist youth in the Eastern Mexico Region. The Youth Career Coach will work closely with the Eastern Area Workforce Development Board to ensure that participants receive the necessary guidance and resources to achieve their educational and employment goals. In this role, the Youth Career Coach will develop individualized service strategies for each participant, identifying their specific educational and employment objectives. The coach will assess each participant's job readiness, provide career counseling, and assist them in meeting both short-term and long-term goals. Additionally, the coach will coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of program participants, ensuring that the program reaches those who can benefit most from its services. The Youth Career Coach will also be responsible for delivering individual and group-based career readiness training and life skills workshops. This includes developing and executing professional curricula that relate to job skills and post-secondary education. By utilizing labor market information and industry trends, the coach will help participants assess their employment and educational opportunities effectively. Building relationships with potential employers is crucial, as the coach will coordinate the placement of well-prepared youth into job opportunities. Follow-up services and supportive services will also be coordinated by the Youth Career Coach, ensuring that participants receive ongoing assistance as they transition into the workforce. The role includes performing routine administrative functions such as client record keeping and research, as well as other special administrative assignments as needed. Overall, the Youth Career Coach is essential in guiding youth towards successful career paths and ensuring they have the support necessary to thrive in their future endeavors.

Responsibilities

• Develop an individualized service strategy for each participant that identifies educational and employment goals and objectives with services and support for positive outcomes.
• Assess participant's job readiness and determine needs, provide career counseling, and assist participant with meeting long and short-term employment and educational goals.
• Coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of program participants.
• Provide individual and group-based career readiness training/life skills workshops.
• Develop and execute professional curricula related to job skills and post-secondary education.
• Use labor market information and industry trends to help participants assess employment and educational opportunities.
• Develop relationships with potential employers and coordinate the placement of well-prepared youth into those opportunities.
• Coordinate supportive services and provide follow-up services to program participants.
• Provide training as requested by administration.
• Perform routine administrative functions (statistics, client record keeping, research, etc.) and special administrative assignments.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent amount of education and/or experience (one year of experience in a related field equals one year of education).
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
• Excellent computer and office skills.
• Ability to establish good professional relationships with staff, employers, clients, and diverse populations.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license as travel is required.
