The Rotational Process Engineer position at Ahlstrom-Munksjö is designed as a developmental role that provides comprehensive experience across various departments within the paper mill, specifically focusing on quality and technical areas. This position is structured to allow the Process Engineer to rotate through different departments, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience in managing safety, process improvement, reliability, and cost efficiency projects. Each rotation is an opportunity to support the current department while also building upon existing technical and interpersonal skills. The ultimate goal is for the Process Engineer to transition into a non-rotational role as positions become available, thereby fostering career growth within the company. In this role, the Process Engineer is expected to adhere to Ahlstrom-Munksjö's stringent manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies. This adherence is crucial to meet and maintain safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper produced. The engineer will manage assigned projects that focus on reliability, cost reduction, and continuous improvement, ensuring that these projects are completed safely and effectively. Additionally, the role involves providing problem-solving support for operational areas of the plant, identifying cost reduction opportunities, and leading initiatives to drive down engineering and manufacturing costs. The Process Engineer will also assess process effectiveness, identify potential improvements, and assist in implementing solutions. A significant aspect of the role is to learn and help deploy Continuous Improvement methodologies to support business unit efforts aimed at enhancing product quality and operational processes. This includes assisting in identifying the appropriate tools to establish and maintain a culture focused on continuous improvement within the manufacturing organization. Furthermore, the engineer will provide support during outages and down days, ensuring that operational goals and objectives are met, and will contribute to operational excellence initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Ahlstrom-Munksjö's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures, and policies to meet safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Manage assigned projects in reliability, cost reduction, and continuous improvement to successful completion.
  • Provide problem-solving support for operational areas of the plant.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and lead initiatives to reduce engineering and manufacturing costs.
  • Assess process effectiveness, identify potential improvements, and help implement solutions.
  • Learn and assist in deploying Continuous Improvement methodologies to enhance product quality and operational processes.
  • Support operational areas during outages and down days to achieve operational goals.
  • Contribute to facility programs that identify opportunities for improvement and prioritize problem-solving or project completion.
  • Support operational excellence initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Related experience through co-op or internship preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills as well as teamwork skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Proficient in key Microsoft software.
  • Solid interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in pursuing growth and development in a manufacturing environment with a focus on future managerial roles.
  • Ability to manage significant projects to successful completion.
