About the position

The Medical Waste Route Driver is responsible for servicing assigned accounts by picking up and transporting medical waste in a safe and efficient manner. This role emphasizes customer service, compliance with regulations, and effective route management to ensure timely waste collection and delivery of supplies. The driver operates company vehicles equipped with advanced technology to enhance safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned routes ensuring customers' waste is picked up in a safe, timely, efficient, and accurate manner.
  • Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  • Follows routing software route schedule.
  • Plans daily schedule based on customers' needs by reviewing daily paperwork provided by the Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher.
  • Prepares paperwork, loads supplies, and secures waste while servicing customer accounts.
  • Ensures that customers have packaged and prepared the waste according to regulations before transporting.
  • Provides the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts, communicating any issues to the Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution.
  • Ensures waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured prior to operating vehicles on public highways.
  • Completes assigned vehicle work legibly, neatly, accurately, and completely for processing by the Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher.
  • Ensures DOT Driver Log is completed, if applicable.
  • Communicates with Stericycle Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher regarding any changes to route pickups.
  • Reports any problems/issues with accounts to Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher before the close of business each day.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip maintenance on assigned trucks prior to leaving or closing for the day.
  • Reports any maintenance problems to Transportation/Dispatcher for follow-up.
  • Uses ELD and Geotab to log hours per DOT guidelines.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • 6+ months of experience, preferably in driving a commercial motor vehicle or box truck.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Commercial Driver's License Required: Class B or above, with an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a medical card by a certified medical examiner.
  • Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records as required by federal regulation.
