About the position

The Routing and Dispatch Supervisor oversees all dispatch and routing activities within the organization, focusing on optimizing daily routing plans and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The role is crucial for achieving operational excellence and customer satisfaction by managing a team of dispatchers and ensuring efficient route completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of dispatchers to prepare and optimize route schedules for various route types.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to drivers to promote efficiency and accountability for route completion.
  • Ensure accountability of route completion through daily execution of route schedules and modifications.
  • Arrange alternate same-day service coverage in case of employee absence or equipment failure.
  • Manage the assignment of drivers and collectors to routes and special pickups for timely services.
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints effectively, engaging customer service and collections departments as needed.
  • Direct end-of-day Driver Check-in/Out procedures, including dispatch weigh tag review and route submission.
  • Oversee and manage route data to ensure tools and systems are current.
  • Review driver notes and update route sequencing as applicable.
  • Monitor driver and inventory capacity to ensure proper utilization and supply levels.
  • Analyze KPIs and metrics to understand trends and identify root causes.
  • Generate and analyze operational reports and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Provide employees with tools, instruction, and feedback to meet or exceed operational KPIs.
  • Collaborate with employees to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Meet with employees daily to ensure consistent communication and review best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Participate in community and business meetings on behalf of the company.
  • Interact with the union regarding grievances and arbitrations.

Requirements

  • One year of progressive leadership and project management experience in route technology, auditing, and editing is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of routing, dispatch, auditing, and customer service.
  • Experience working with data from public and private sources.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Experience supervising non-exempt working operations, ideally commercial drivers and dispatchers.
  • Knowledge of employee training, supervision, and evaluation principles.
  • Familiarity with supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning, and budgeting.
  • Commercial Driver's License preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
