About the position

The Railroad Commission of Texas is seeking an Engineering Specialist I/Oil and Gas Field Inspector to perform technical field inspections in oilfield operations. This role involves conducting surveys, inspections, and investigations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in the oil and gas industry. The position offers opportunities to learn about oil and gas operations, drilling, production, and transportation, while enhancing skills in identifying and analyzing drilling and production equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Observe drilling operations and conduct drilling rig inspections for compliance with statewide rules.
  • Inspect well plugging and witness surface casing cementing to ensure protection of the States usable quality water.
  • Document mechanical integrity tests associated with injection and disposal wells to ensure compliance with permit restrictions.
  • Inspect commercial recycling and surface waste facilities to ensure compliance with permit specifications.
  • Conduct general lease inspections to ensure overall compliance with statewide rules.
  • Perform and analyze fluid level tests on wells to ensure protection of the States usable quality water.
  • Gauge storage at the lease battery to determine the amounts of oil, condensate, and produced water on location.
  • Utilize gauge lines, color cut, and other testing equipment for titration of fluids.
  • Investigate well complaints, document findings, and submit detailed reporting forms.
  • Collect and correlate engineering and geological data.
  • Excavate and collect soil samples to a depth of 30 inches or more to locate lines.
  • Respond to emergency hydrogen sulfide (H2S) situations, make inspections, and report findings to the District Office management.
  • Compose and submit reports and documentation in the prescribed timeline using Oracle and/or Microsoft Office software.
  • Communicate technical information to industry employees and the public.
  • Walk up to two miles, in various weather conditions, to complete inspections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Applicant must live in or be willing to move to Reeves, Loving, Winkler or Ward County, Texas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in engineering or oil gas industry.
  • B.S. in Engineering, geology, or other scientific degree from an accredited four-year college or university OR Associate's Degree or technical certification from accredited technical institute/college.
