About the position

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) position at Rutherford Regional Health System involves assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing disorders. The role includes supervising respiratory therapy students, conducting therapeutic procedures, maintaining patient records, and operating respiratory care equipment. The therapist will also perform diagnostic evaluations and treatments for patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies, ensuring high-quality care in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and assess response to ordered therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Adhere to respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
  • Respond to codes and calls for emergent assistance, assessing patient condition and delivering appropriate treatment.
  • Educate the patient and family about the patient's illness and provide information about disease.
  • Monitor, receive, stock, and distribute respiratory care supplies.
  • Disassemble, clean, and sterilize equipment, performing preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
  • Attend high-risk C-Sections and high-risk deliveries to assist the physician with resuscitation of the newborn.
  • Perform infant ventilation, including assisting in intubation and tube securing, ventilation with neo puff, and ventilator initialization and monitoring.
  • Prepare shift assignment, assign personnel, and monitor workload to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new employees.
  • Assist with peer interviews.
  • Perform arterial blood gas sampling.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree (or equivalent technician program) in Respiratory Care required.
  • Current North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license (RCP) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 3 months of hire or transfer required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 3 months of hire or transfer required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 3 months of hire or transfer required.
  • Handle with Care certification within 3 months of hire or transfer required.
  • 1-3 years experience as a RRT preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care preferred.
