About the position

The Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher position is designed for educators who are passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs in K-5, K-8, and 6-8 school settings for the 2024-2025 school year. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the California Content Standards across various curricular areas, including language arts, mathematics, English language development, history/social science, science, visual/performing arts, health, and physical education. Teachers will be expected to provide balanced instruction that meets the needs of all students, utilizing district-adopted instructional programs and strategies, including SDAIE strategies for English Language Learners. In this role, teachers will implement appropriate intervention strategies to ensure the academic success of all students while maintaining high expectations for their academic achievement. They will develop lesson plans that align with the Oxnard School District Curriculum Maps and reflect the California Content Standards appropriate to their grade levels. The position also emphasizes the importance of creating a positive learning environment, establishing standards of pupil behavior, and maintaining effective communication with parents regarding their children's progress. Teachers will be responsible for administering, analyzing, and reporting student assessments to tailor instructional programs effectively. Collaboration with special education personnel and colleagues is essential to provide appropriate instructional modifications and support the overall instructional process at the school and district levels. Participation in professional growth activities and adherence to school and district guidelines are also key components of this position. The role may involve supervising students during out-of-classroom activities and participating in school safety plans, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the California Content Standards in all curricular areas.
  • Provide balanced instruction in all curricular areas, including language arts, mathematics, English language development, history/social science, science, visual/performing arts, health, and physical education.
  • Utilize district adopted instructional programs, strategies and curriculum, including SDAIE strategies for English Language Learners.
  • Provide appropriate intervention strategies to ensure the academic success of all students.
  • Maintain high expectations for all students' academic achievement.
  • Implement the beliefs, mission statement, objectives, and parameters of the Strategic Plan, as adopted by the Board of Trustees.
  • Develop and utilize lesson plans that implement the Oxnard School District Curriculum Maps and reflect instruction in the California Content Standards appropriate to the grade level(s).
  • Utilize technology in the classroom, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a positive learning environment in the classroom.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student achievement.
  • Communicate with parents to provide and explain information regarding social, academic, and behavioral progress of students.
  • Administer, analyze, report, and utilize student assessments as prescribed by the district to provide an appropriate instructional program for all students.
  • Support activities and events sponsored and approved by the district or school within the duty day.
  • Collaborate with special education and other personnel to provide appropriate instructional programs and modifications for students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support and improve the instructional process at the school/district level.
  • Adhere to school and district timelines/guidelines and working hours.
  • Perform basic attendance accounting, inventory of student books and materials, and other record keeping as required.
  • Participate in school and district level staff meetings and committees, as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate the work of paraprofessionals, if applicable.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities (on campus and on field trips) during the assigned duty day.
  • Participate in school and district plans to assure the safety of students.
  • Participate in appropriate professional growth activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the site administrator to be performed within the duty day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A valid and appropriate California Teaching Credential in compliance with the provisions of Title 5, Administrative Code, Sections 8002-80127 and California Education Code, Sections 44000-44665.
  • Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health.
  • Evidence of good moral character.
  • Satisfactory recommendations from training supervisors or other professionals who have observed the candidate's personal characteristics, scholastic achievement and job-related performance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Experience working with Mild/Moderate special education students.
