About the position

The Rural Division Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing financial operations, compliance, and reporting for rural division hospitals and affiliated entities. This role involves providing financial expertise, training, and support to rural CFOs, ensuring best practices in financial management, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The officer will also lead performance evaluations and financial reporting processes, while fostering relationships with various stakeholders within the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Support managed and owned hospitals with varied operational plans and information systems.
  • Serve as liaison between rural division CFOs and Bryan Health Management Accounting.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and assist in evaluating Rural CFOs, providing professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely preparation of monthly financials and payroll functions by division CFOs.
  • Coordinate rural division cost report consolidation with the home office cost report.
  • Assist in cost report desk review, onsite audits, and settlements.
  • Measure and evaluate the performance of rural division hospitals against industry standards.
  • Compile information and perform comparative analysis to determine benchmarks for evaluating performance.
  • Lead measurement activities for the division scorecard and ensure accurate reporting to CEOs and Boards of Directors.
  • Lead the deployment and relationship management between affiliated hospitals and Bryan Health.
  • Provide interim CFO services when needed or arrange for contracted services.
  • Provide general oversight of revenue cycle performance.
  • Evaluate action plans or financial feasibility studies related to rural division hospitals.
  • Ensure proper reporting of payer contractuals by division CFOs to CEOs and Boards of Directors.
  • Ensure reporting of productivity and volumes by providing statistical reports to CEOs and Boards of Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as cost reports and provider enrollment.
  • Ensure the format and structure of division financial statements meet Bryan Health's requirements.
  • Ensure integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the budgeting process for operating and capital budgets.
  • Develop relationships with auditing firms to ensure timely and appropriate audits.
  • Keep informed of current issues and maintain professional growth through seminars and workshops.
  • Demonstrate competency in Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurance billing requirements.
  • Understand the Critical Access Hospital program and its implications on operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or equivalent area of study required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible work experience in accounting and budgeting functions required.
  • Five (5) years of prior management experience required.
  • Valid CPA license preferred.
