About the position

The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist position at Kings Bay, GA, focuses on developing and implementing safety and occupational health programs to ensure a safe workplace. The role involves conducting inspections, audits, and investigations related to safety compliance and mishaps, as well as serving in key safety officer roles during operations involving nuclear weapons and ordnance handling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop safety and occupational health program plans and instructions for SWFLANT.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections of work operations and facilities to ensure adherence to hazard control measures.
  • Perform annual audits and self-assessments of assigned programs.
  • Conduct mishap investigations and prepare formal reports.
  • Serve as the Assistant Nuclear Weapons Radiological Controls Officer and/or Weapons Radiological Controls Technician.
  • Act as Pier Safety Loading Officer during Strategic Weapon and Conventional Ordnance handling.
  • Conduct surveys of new and changing work operations to identify hazards and assess risks.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must have at least three years of general experience, including one year equivalent to the GS-4 grade level.
  • Experience must be in scientific or technical work related to safety and occupational health.
  • Education in safety or occupational health fields, or related fields with relevant coursework, is required.
  • Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar is acceptable.
