About the position

The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist at the Department of Commerce plays a crucial role in ensuring workplace safety and compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. This position involves conducting inspections, providing safety training, and advising management on safety practices to enhance employee safety and health standards within the agency.

Responsibilities

• Conducting occupational safety and health (OSH) inspections of workplaces and operations that are complex and high hazard.
• Providing assistance in hazard recognition, assessment, and abatement options to line managers, employees, and division safety personnel.
• Reviewing facilities and construction-related safety plans and job hazard analyses for compliance with safety principles and regulations.
• Analyzing OSH data for trends, identifying gaps, and developing strategies to address those needs.
• Developing, coordinating, and presenting safety training programs.
• Advising OFPM leadership on opportunities to improve OSH awareness and systems.
• Managing assigned OSH programs and contracts.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level, including experience in reviewing and applying OSH federal regulations and agency policies.
• Experience conducting workplace OSH investigations and annual inspections.
• Experience coordinating and presenting safety training.
