About the position

The Safety and Security Director at Southeast Denver Christian Church is responsible for developing, improving, and leading the church's safety and security ministry. This role involves overseeing volunteer teams, ensuring a safe environment for church activities, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance safety protocols. The director will also provide training, manage budgets, and maintain safety equipment, all while embodying the church's values and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Work cooperatively with staff and volunteer teams to support the ministry of Southeast in safety and security concerns.
  • Mentor, lead, and supervise Southeast school, church employees, and/or volunteers.
  • Recruit, develop, train, and lead the Safety and Security, Medical Response, HALO, and Parking Lot volunteer teams.
  • Recruit and train personnel to staff the Safety and Response Command Center for weekend services and events.
  • Provide continual classroom and live exercise training for staff and volunteers regarding safety and security.
  • Work with Human Resources regarding safety and security, assisting with background checks as needed.
  • Plan and lead the Safety and Security, Medical Response, HALO, and Parking Lot volunteer teams for weekend services and events.
  • Maintain concealed carry weapons proficiency and training.
  • Develop and implement emergency procedures and documentation for the church.
  • Maintain and stock first aid cabinets.
  • Create and manage the Safety and Security, Medical Response, HALO, and Parking Lot team budgets.
  • Manage and distribute building keys and key cards.
  • Manage the access control system for the church and school using Pro Data Key (PDK).
  • Manage the video camera system for the church and school using Digital Watchdog.
  • Provide safety and security support and coverage as required to Southeast Christian School.
  • Partner with local law enforcement and fire departments on safety issues.
  • Partner with outside agencies and churches to enhance Southeast's safety and security program.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience in church security, law enforcement, or similar with a strong understanding of safety and security.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, especially in Criminal Law/Science.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification preferred (must acquire within the first 12 months of employment).
  • Must have a current Colorado Concealed Carry Permit.
  • Passion for providing a safe and positive experience for guests.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong leadership, encouragement, and motivating skills to lead and develop support staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to remain calm under stressful situations and manage volatile situations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Planning Center Online applications.
  • Familiarity with mobile applications for security devices.
