About The Position

The Safety and Security Manager at Planters in Suffolk, VA is responsible for overseeing all safety and security activities at the facility. This role involves managing safety programs to ensure compliance with corporate policies and OSHA standards, coordinating safety training, and maintaining effective communication regarding workplace injuries and illnesses. The manager will also oversee the plant's security program and collaborate with the Human Resources team to foster positive employee relations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant industry experience.
  • Successful salaried experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A strong pattern of initiative and achievement.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including leadership and persuasion.
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to prioritize.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all activities associated with plant safety and security at the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with Hormel Foods Corporate Safety Policies and OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate safety training for all Suffolk plant team members with assistance from Human Resources Coordinator.
  • Ensure proper reporting and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses (OSHA & BSL Logs).
  • Maintain a timely system of workers compensation and medical management.
  • Co-chair the Suffolk Plant Safety Committee.
  • Manage the Suffolk plant security program and the 3rd party security team.
  • Cross-train with Human Resources and perform those duties when requested.
  • Maintain positive company employee labor relations.
