About the position

The Safety and Sustainability Advisor at Colas Rail UK is responsible for promoting safety and sustainability within the organization, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, and fostering a positive safety culture across projects. This role involves providing professional advice, conducting training, and managing safety performance metrics, all while engaging with employees and partners to drive continuous improvement in safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee activities to ensure compliance with HS Legislation & Alliance Partner requirements.
  • Raise the profile and awareness of safety and sustainability throughout the MMA & support accident prevention initiatives.
  • Provide professional advice on the maintenance of the MMA safety management system for continual improvement.
  • Engage with employees, Alliance Partners & Contractors to promote a positive safety and sustainability culture.
  • Monitor safety and sustainability performance for assigned projects and ensure audit plans are achieved.
  • Conduct safety and sustainability inspections and coordinate investigations into incidents and accidents.
  • Manage reporting of safety and sustainability issues to the Head of Safety and Sustainability.
  • Assist in developing and implementing OSH strategies & initiatives.
  • Develop & deliver safety and sustainability training to MMA Staff.
  • Manage data related to workplace safety & sustainability progress & KPI data.
  • Conduct risk assessments as required.
  • Contribute to the development of systems and procedures to meet quality and performance targets.
  • Review safety documentation from Alliance Partners/Sub-contractors and provide feedback.

Requirements

  • Strong background in occupational safety management and supporting systems.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment techniques and trained as a Risk Assessor.
  • Competent in training development and delivery.
  • Proficient in Office applications: Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Good interpersonal skills and knowledge of behavioral/collaboration techniques.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Membership or working towards CMIOSH in a professional institute.
  • Experience in health and safety management within the infrastructure or construction industry.
  • Highly developed organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing safety management systems.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices in the construction industry.
