About the position
The Safety Attendant - Hole Watch is responsible for monitoring and protecting individuals entering confined spaces, ensuring fire prevention and protection at the work site. This role involves maintaining communication with entrants, verifying safety protocols, and performing non-entry rescues when necessary. The position also offers foundational technician training for those interested in advancing their skills.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and protect the Entrant during confined space entry operations.
- Perform external fire watch duties for Hotwork being conducted.
- Maintain communication with entrants using verbal signals or radio.
- Post the permit at the entry point and track workers entering or exiting the space.
- Ensure ventilation is functional throughout the entry process.
- Verify entrants have completed pre-entry meter readings and are wearing required PPE.
- Perform non-entry rescues using RSRL or mechanical rescue devices.
- Summon rescue services during emergencies and order evacuations if necessary.
- Prevent unauthorized access to permit spaces and inform supervisors of any breaches.
- Assist with shop helper duties and other safety responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Competent in the operation of RSRL and mechanical rescue devices.
- Working knowledge of safety procedures.
- Ability to complete multiple tasks with urgency.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Safety-oriented with the ability to identify hazards.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience as a Confined Space Attendant, Fire Watch, Bottle Watch, Rope Rescue Technician, or Hole Watch is a plus.
