About the position

The Safety and Compliance Specialist I/II is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing safety programs, policies, and procedures within the organization. This role involves collaboration with an outside safety firm and various internal departments to ensure compliance with safety regulations and to promote a safe working environment. The specialist will lead safety initiatives, conduct training, and manage worker's compensation processes, while also maintaining records and reporting on safety compliance.

Responsibilities

• Create and manage various safety programs including California's Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.
• Conduct safety needs assessments and lead the safety committee.
• Plan and organize evacuation drills and work with area ministry offices on their safety plans.
• Research, create, implement, and conduct safety training for employees.
• Maintain safety records and emergency contact information in the HRIS.
• Document work-related illnesses and injuries, and manage the worker's compensation claim process.
• Recommend and implement work injury preventative measures such as ergonomic assessments.
• Assist with compliance recordkeeping and reporting for OSHA and other safety regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business or human resources.
• 1-3 years of experience for Specialist I or 4+ years for Specialist II in safety program management.
• Experience in HR with safety and compliance responsibilities is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of employees.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.

• Experience with planning and conducting safety drills.
• Understanding of Christian ministry and specifically Joni and Friends.
