About the position

The Safety Component Test Technician (Pedestrian Protection) at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. is responsible for conducting safety testing on vehicle components, specifically focusing on pedestrian protection impacts. This role involves using specialized test equipment to ensure compliance with various safety standards and regulations, while also performing secondary safety testing roles. The technician will analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain a safe and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pedestrian protection impact testing using FlexPLI and aPLI, Upper Leg, and Headform.
  • Perform testing according to NHTSA regulations and NCAP standards, including LatinNCAP, EuroNCAP, and ECE/GTR protocols.
  • Execute secondary component level safety tests such as FMVSS 201u and FMVSS 226.
  • Operate gas-cylinder powered test rigs and use 3D Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM) for mapping impact target points.
  • Utilize 3D Handheld Scan Tools to collect geometric surface data.
  • Analyze collected data and prepare detailed reports.
  • Install and prepare test equipment, rigs, and fixtures for testing.
  • Verify sensor functionality and manage calibration of test equipment.
  • Collect test data and manage data acquisition systems and sensors.
  • Fabricate fixtures for test equipment and perform vehicle component build-up and teardown.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
  • Familiarity with European Pedestrian Protection requirements and consumer metric protocols.
  • Experience in an automotive development and testing environment.
  • General knowledge of instrumentation and sensors such as accelerometers and LVDT.
  • Experience with disassembly and reassembly of vehicle components.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior in a professional setting.
  • General fabrication and/or welding experience.
  • Vehicle diagnostic skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Proficient PC skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet time constraints.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a diverse environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's Degree in Automotive or Industrial Technology.
  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
