About the position

The Safety Coordinator at Houston Shutters is responsible for overseeing workplace safety in the manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, and promoting a safe working environment. This role involves conducting inspections, maintaining safety records, and collaborating with management to implement safety policies and training programs.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and maintain required work site safety records, safety manuals, SDS, and accident forms.
  • Conduct regular on-site inspections in the manufacturing facility, warehouse, and offices.
  • Observe workplace conditions and recommend corrective actions regarding health and safety.
  • Enforce safety policy and procedure and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Submit daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports.
  • Oversee and collaborate with Plant Manager, HR Manager, and Shop COO to record weekly safety meetings.
  • Review and investigate accidents, incidents, or serious injuries and notify relevant managers of details.
  • Analyze reports from accident investigations to determine root causes and necessary corrective actions.
  • Review and recommend continued training of employees in safe and efficient work methods.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and standards, including inspections and citations.
  • Coordinate with HR Manager regarding worker's compensation and safety issues.
  • Evaluate hazardous conditions and develop hazard control practices and programs.
  • Develop procedures and training tools for increased efficiency and safety training.
  • Assist Plant Manager in identifying critical safety issues and health problems.
  • Promote health and safety goals and objectives that affect the company's business.
  • Stay updated on federal, state, and city safety laws that may impact the company.
  • Protect company interests related to environmental health, workplace safety, and risk management.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field.
  • 2 years of work-related experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Occupational Hygiene & Safety Technician (OHST) certification preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Leadership experience supervising in a manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA and DOT rules and regulations.
  • Experience with MS Office programs.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
