About the position

The Safety Director at Heaton Erecting, Inc. is responsible for fostering a culture of safety across multiple construction job sites. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with safety regulations, particularly OSHA standards, and implementing best practices to create a safe working environment for all employees. The position involves strategic planning, oversight of safety management, and conducting safety training and inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance safety and health standards at job sites.
  • Oversee safety management across various construction sites, ensuring adherence to OSHA compliance and safety regulations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of work areas to identify potential hazards, including equipment and working conditions.
  • Facilitate employee safety meetings and training sessions, covering emergency procedures, proper equipment and PPE usage.
  • Report and investigate all safety-related incidents, near misses, and accidents, ensuring accurate documentation and recommending corrective actions.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and complaints related to workplace hazards.
  • Complete accident reports and maintain comprehensive records of investigations and safety audits.
  • Perform safety audits, inspections, and evaluations to identify hazards and implement corrective measures in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with construction safety laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct safety orientations for new hires to instill a strong safety culture from the outset.
  • Stay informed about current safety regulations and industry trends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of safety management principles, tools, and technologies relevant to the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations.
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced environments and thrive in high-pressure situations.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Leadership, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience in construction safety management roles.
  • OSHA 500 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (preferred).
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
