About the position

The Safety & Industrial Hygiene team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and health of personnel through hazard assessment, mitigation, and regulatory compliance. This position focuses on assessing workplace hazards in research and development programs, implementing strategies to reduce personnel exposures and accidents, and driving improvements in safety programs for comprehensive employee protection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct, facilitate, or participate in workplace and project risk assessments to identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks.
  • Prepare and coordinate training on risk analysis techniques such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA.
  • Oversee implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and work with Program Managers to enact PSM best practices.
  • Assess projects using knowledge of chemistry and physics to ensure mitigation of hazardous conditions and evaluate chemical compatibility.
  • Assist Incident Investigation teams in investigating safety incidents and developing action plans to address Process Safety gaps.
  • Provide Emergency Response support as required.
  • Develop and conduct safety training for Institute Staff on process safety and OSHA requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Process Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Public Health, or a related degree with relevant work experience.
  • 2 years of experience in Process Safety Management, Hazard Analyses, OSHA compliance, and/or Industrial Hygiene.
  • 2 years of knowledge of chemistry and its impact on processes and potential personnel exposures.
  • 2 years of strong background in chemical and engineering principles and integrated risk assessments covering safety, health, and environmental protection.
  • A valid/clear driver's license.

  • Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) Process Safety Professional Certification.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Associate Safety Professional certification.
  • BCSP Certified Safety Professional certification.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) license.
