About the position

The Intern position at Turner Construction focuses on assisting with safety and loss control activities on construction projects or office locations. The role is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, providing hands-on experience in a leading commercial construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Everyday) and project safety program under supervision.
  • Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, especially those posing imminent danger.
  • Coordinate safety duties for safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
  • Assist with training coordination at safety meetings and orientations.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with company policies.
  • Promote safe work practices in accordance with regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Administer drug screening programs aligned with company/client requirements.
  • Conduct jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
  • Maintain safety records including pre-task plans and incident investigations.
  • Conduct effective worker orientation programs for new employees.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of completed education or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
  • Desire to work in construction management and learn about the construction industry.
