About the position

The Safety Lead provides knowledge and technical assistance to NEMS for the implementation of all safety programs that meets or exceeds current standards. They will represent the company in safety matters internally and externally, including, but not limited to, fire, elevator, building, OSHA, and industry safety. The Safety Lead will review, interpret, and consult on both existing and upcoming local, State, and Federal safety regulations and standards. This person will organize and lead Safety Committee discussion and action, conduct project audits/inspections, emergency preparedness exercises, business continuity planning, and safety training. In addition, this role will supervise the Security team and oversee the administration of the vaccine temperature monitoring system.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day Security Guard(s) and Safety Coordinator scheduling and general supervision.
  • Administrator of the vaccine monitoring program (hardware and software), Stericycle emergency planning and hazardous waste management, and emergency radio system.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state, federal, OSHA, NIMS, and other emergency-related regulations and understands best practices and safety protocols for all departments across NEMS.
  • Make recommendations to Facilities Manager and Director and Safety Committee regarding emergency risk mitigation, preparedness/training, response/recovery activities, business continuity, etc.
  • Assist in conducting table-top exercises and group trainings; design and implement emergency protocols to ensure organization is equipped to execute Incident Command System (ICS) and other safety measures during emergencies.
  • Attend community meetings and participate in other external emergency planning groups, task forces, and committees regularly.
  • Sustain business relationships with third-party agencies and vendors for security staffing, fire and elevator inspections and repairs, community engagement, educators, emergency authorities, etc.
  • Prepare clinical departments on hazardous material training and annual Business Continuity Planning (BCP), conduct bi-annual fire drills, perform quarterly OSHA safety inspections, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Meet with local or State auditors and inspectors to address clinical, building, or workplace hazards.
  • Work closely with Facilities management to ensure proper safety devices, measures, and plans are in place, and hazards mitigated, at all NEMS locations.
  • Partner with Safety Committee and Human Resources to carry out or refer employee ergonomic assessments.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school degree or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Environmental Science or related field preferred.
  • 1+ year supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with emergency/safety programs (management concepts, terminology, and basic procedures).
  • Must have strong public speaking and training development skills.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer usage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possession of a current and valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Within one year, must be able to: (1) obtain on-line certification in ergonomic assessments; (2) complete OSHA-related compliance training; and (3) obtain Incident Command System (ICS) certification.
  • Certification in ergonomic assessment preferred.
  • Knowledge of HAM radio and emergency communication systems preferred.
  • The ability to speak a second language is an asset.
  • The ability to speak Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) highly preferred.
