About the position

The Safety Manager for McCarthy Building Companies will lead safety initiatives within the Marine Business Unit, focusing on ensuring a culture of safety across projects in the Southern Region. This role involves monitoring safety programs, conducting inspections, and coordinating with project supervision to maintain compliance and minimize hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and discuss safety programs with on-site subcontractors and McCarthy employees.
  • Conduct documented safety and health inspections at least twice per month.
  • Coordinate with Project Supervision to ensure proper safety materials and equipment are utilized.
  • Investigate all injuries and review accident reports, coordinating corrective measures.
  • Minimize construction hazards and enforce safety policies using the disciplinary policy.
  • Conduct weekly Project Safety 'Toolbox' meetings with all McCarthy employees.
  • Record and forward all safety-related documentation to the Division Safety Director.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing safety efforts on marine, industrial, or water projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • OSHA 500 certification required.
  • Ability to manage safety orientations and oversee substance abuse programs.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with all construction groups including management, owners, trades, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel/relocate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
