About the position
The Safety Manager will lead health and safety initiatives at the Chicago Heights plant, focusing on continuous improvement in safety performance, strategic direction, training, and regulatory compliance. This role involves working closely with a dedicated team to foster a culture of safety excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures that comply with regulations.
- Develop and execute training programs for managers and employees on workplace safety practices.
- Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations, including recordkeeping and safety audits.
- Lead weekly safety meetings and coordinate EHS training initiatives.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify EHS risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Spearhead Root Cause Analysis for incidents and drive improvements.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Environmental Department on environmental programs.
- Manage reporting and follow-up of workplace incidents with relevant agencies.
- Oversee site Workers Compensation claims management.
- Champion Process Safety Management practices.
- Perform routine job skills analysis and task assessments to enhance safety measures.
- Promote management's commitment to safety at all levels of the organization.
- Manage and mentor one safety professional.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years in a health and safety role within a manufacturing environment, ideally in the chemical or food industry.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- In-depth understanding of OSHA regulations and industrial chemical processes.
