About the position

The Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for directing the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive environmental, safety, and health programs within the facility. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, while also fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization. The Safety Manager will lead initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses, manage safety training, and maintain effective communication with employees and management regarding safety performance and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strategic safety programs for the plant and design critical programs to achieve strategic direction.
  • Develop safety program performance objectives and measure safety performance with KPIs.
  • Provide leadership in the development, administration, and maintenance of EHS compliance.
  • Develop and maintain safety standards and procedures to reduce workplace injury risks.
  • Assist management with accident investigations and reporting, providing recommendations for corrective measures.
  • Maintain accurate environmental and injury/illness records.
  • Develop and administer the facility EHS Management Systems including hazard analyses and safe operating procedures.
  • Facilitate compliance with environmental and safety standards through audits and inspections.
  • Serve as a liaison with external regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting.
  • Conduct inspections and audits of operations to ensure compliance with safety policies.
  • Ensure proactive accident prevention through employee training and maintain training records.
  • Coordinate safety training for employees, including OSHA required training and safety orientation for new hires.
  • Oversee the Emergency response program and security program.
  • Influence and direct a culture change across the organization.

Requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable industry environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to develop multiple solutions.
  • Ability to develop and implement environmental and safety policies, programs, and training.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices and processes, preferably in the food industry.
  • Flexibility to adjust work hours as needed and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment or independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in an EHS related discipline and/or further education is a plus.
