About the position

As the Safety Marketing and Communications Specialist III at the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), you will play a crucial role in enhancing employee safety through effective communication and marketing strategies. This position is situated within the Office of Transportation Safety (OTS), which is dedicated to reducing work-related injuries and accidents among CDOT employees. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and deliver focused safety campaigns utilizing various multimedia products tailored for CDOT's diverse regions. You will be tasked with marketing both current and new safety programs, managing the content and accessibility of the Employee Safety Website, and creating engaging content for programs such as Safety 180 and Safe TV. Additionally, you will embed media on internal and external streaming channels for training programs, drawing on trends, risk management data, best practices, and industry standards. In this role, you will be expected to travel approximately 15% of your time to various regions to capture media, deliver training, and promote existing and new safety programs. Your work will involve developing and monitoring branding and marketing strategies that utilize print, online, and visual media to effectively communicate safety initiatives, process improvements, and critical safety messages. You will also be responsible for using modern technology, including DSLR cameras and podcasting equipment, to produce high-quality media content for publication on the Employee Safety Website and other internal platforms. Collaboration is key in this position; you will work closely with regional safety officers, other organizational work groups, and the Office of Public Relations to ensure effective safety messaging and the sustainable implementation of safety processes and policies. You will also consult with the Statewide Safety Manager to recommend changes to communication strategies for existing and new safety programs, ensuring their continued success. Furthermore, you will manage the Employee Safety Website, ensuring it remains functional, accessible, and updated with new content as directed. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of full-time professional experience in advertising, communications, journalism, broadcasting, marketing, media arts, or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of experience focused on creating and implementing marketing campaigns.
  • A combination of relevant education and experience equal to at least 6 years may be considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated success in marketing and communications roles.
  • Experience with multimedia hardware and software, including DSLR photography and video editing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite, especially Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere.
  • Knowledge of HTML for web page creation.
