About the position

The Safety Security Officer at the Dayton Art Institute is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of visitors, staff, and artwork during late-night hours. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a low-traffic environment, ensuring a welcoming and secure space through regular patrols, enforcement of security protocols, and excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the museum galleries, grounds, and parking areas.
  • Monitor security cameras and alarm systems to detect and prevent unauthorized access and potential security breaches.
  • Provide a visible presence to deter criminal activity and ensure the safety of the museum during non-operational hours.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, alarms, and incidents such as medical emergencies, fires, or security threats.
  • Take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of individuals and artworks.
  • Enforce museum security policies and procedures to maintain order and protect assets.
  • Assist with any necessary reports or documentation for incidents that occur during the shift.

Requirements

  • Previous security experience preferred, especially in an overnight or 3rd shift capacity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently during the night shift.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service, emergency preparedness, crisis management, or incident response.
  • Ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
