About the position

The Protective Security Officer at Rochester General Hospital is responsible for maintaining peace and order while serving as a first responder to emergency situations, particularly those involving weapons or active violence. The role involves operating from a fixed post, conducting periodic tours, providing customer service, and ensuring the safety of staff and property. The officer will also enforce regulations and assist existing safety personnel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a highly visible command presence and act as a visual deterrent to active aggression.
• Maintain constant vigilance and situational awareness to respond rapidly to weapons threats or active shooter situations.
• Properly handle routine and emergency incidents that threaten the security and safety of the facility, patients, staff, and employees.
• Monitor access to Rochester Regional Health facilities and assist visitors with legitimate needs for entry.
• Observe screening of patients, visitors, and client employees to ensure efficient admittance to the facility.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in criminal justice or equivalent combination of three years' experience in public safety, hospital security, military police, correction officer, or law enforcement.
• Valid NYS Driver's license.
• Valid NYS Pistol permit.
• Valid NYS Security Guard Armed license or active police officer status.
