About the position

The Safety Specialist 1 - Safety Consultant position at the Oregon Department of Forestry involves supporting the statewide safety program by providing guidance on safety regulations, coordinating with various agencies, and assisting in incident investigations and claims management. This role is hybrid, requiring both remote work and occasional travel across the state for training and investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Support incident investigations.
  • Maintain necessary records and files in Workday.
  • Provide support to the Safety Consultant.
  • Assist in claims management.
  • Help develop and administer agency safety and wellness procedures.
  • Coordinate the processing of risk/loss claims and assist in prevention strategies.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in Workers' Compensation loss prevention, return to work programs, or occupational health and wellness programs.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of safety risks and hazards for emergency response occupations.
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to apply laws, regulations, and policies related to safety, workers' compensation, and ADA issues.
  • Ability to review workplace situations and determine safe/unsafe conditions.
  • Ability to review physical assessments and determine job impact.
  • Ability to review vehicle accidents and determine preventability.
