About the position

The Safety Technician position at the Department of Commerce involves providing technical safety support to the Facilities Services Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The role focuses on designing and implementing safety and occupational health plans, advising management on safety practices, and conducting safety training. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and improving workplace safety across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Design safety and occupational health plans and systems for multiple sites.
• Develop and implement safety strategies to improve workplace safety practices.
• Provide expert advice to managers on safety and occupational health practices and regulations.
• Coordinate and present safety training to division personnel and contractors.
• Make decisions on safety code applications and practices to reduce injuries and ensure compliance.
• Perform duties as the Contracting Officer's Representative on safety-related contracts.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-10 level, including technical assistance and guidance on mechanical systems safety and safety inspections.
• A valid U.S. driver's license is required.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in safety equipment inspections and workplace safety inspections during various operations.
