About the position
The Safety & Training Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the District's Human Resources Safety Program. This position is responsible for implementing and monitoring the District's injury and illness prevention program, creating proactive training programs, and investigating incidents to enhance workplace safety. The specialist will work closely with management to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations, while also developing effective communication strategies to educate employees on safety policies.
Responsibilities
- Establish safety standards and goals to prevent industrial accidents.
- Design and develop safety policies and procedures to meet established goals.
- Monitor and update safety programs as new information or equipment is added.
- Communicate safety policies and standards to employees through various training media.
- Visit job sites to identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct accident investigations to prevent future occurrences.
- Track annual safety certifications for applicable staff.
- Develop and publish an annual Safety Training Calendar.
- Maintain records and reports to track incident rates and identify problem areas.
- Work closely with the Risk Management team to reduce the financial impact of claims and injuries.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
- Instructor's certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation from recognized organizations.
- Four years of progressively professional level experience in a structured occupational safety and health program.
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health programs or a closely related field.
