About the position

The Substance Abuse & Mental Health Counselor position is focused on providing one-on-one therapy and case management for clients at an OASAS-certified outpatient mental health and substance abuse agency. The role offers flexible hours and the opportunity to work part-time or full-time in-person at either the Middle Island or East Setauket locations. The ideal candidate will be a licensed LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC, dedicated to maintaining a supportive and collaborative environment for clients.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine individual needs and develop tailored treatment plans.
• Provide evidence-based behavioral therapy and psychotherapy, utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and adhere to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support patients and their families in crisis intervention and ongoing care.
• Engage in clinical research and stay updated on best practices in substance abuse and mental health counseling.

Requirements

• LMSW, LCSW, or LMHC certification required.
• Proficient in behavioral therapy.
• Strong skills in patient care, assessment, and medical documentation.
• Experience in crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology.
• Familiarity with cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
