About the position

The Sales and Use Tax Specialist at Apogee Services Inc. is responsible for ensuring compliance with sales and use tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions. This role involves managing the tax exemption process, preparing and filing sales and use tax returns, and providing support during tax audits. The position requires collaboration with colleagues in various locations, utilizing virtual tools for effective communication and workflow management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and file sales and use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Reconcile tax liabilities with general ledger accounts.
• Manage and maintain customer exemption certificates in collaboration with the customer service team, ensuring compliance and resolving disputes.
• Assist with state tax audits by providing necessary documentation and resolving discrepancies with tax authorities.
• Serve as a backup for invoicing and credit adjustments.

Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations and compliance processes.
• 3 years of experience in preparing and filing sales tax returns across multiple jurisdictions and managing sales tax exemptions, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or a similar industry.
• Familiarity with sales tax software (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across various locations and functions.
