About the position

The Sales Application Engineer (SAE) serves as the primary technical resource for the outside sales force, responsible for driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. This role involves collaborating closely with the Engineering Department to provide reliable solutions for technical issues, ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the sales cycle. The SAE must establish and maintain strong relationships with customers and the sales team, while also promoting technical sales and mentoring others within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess customer needs by compiling information and evaluating system performance.
  • Present products to customers in conjunction with the Outside Sales Representative.
  • Specify products and design solutions to address customer issues.
  • Determine costs and create complete proposals including documentation and drawings.
  • Service customers via telephone to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide on-site engineering assistance and training to customers.
  • Promote technical sales and educate the sales team on products.
  • Review Design Request Forms (DRFs) to ensure completeness and communicate with engineering.
  • Field technical requests from outside sales/customers to minimize engineering involvement.
  • Design basic systems and non-engineered assembly requests from outside sales.
  • Develop technical drawings using AutoCAD software.
  • Manage products and supplier relationships for specific product lines.
  • Evaluate industry trends and new technology through training and meetings.
  • Mentor others within the organization on management, sales, and system design.
  • Protect the company’s intellectual property in external communications.
  • Train inside and outside sales teams to enhance technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Mechanical, Engineering Technology, or Fluid Power Engineering Degree required.
  • 5+ years of fluid power design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical design concepts and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to organize and execute multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD.
  • IFPS Hydraulic Certification is a plus.
