About the position

Nelson Global is seeking a Sales Application Engineer to join our team under the direction of the Director of Engineering. This role is pivotal in providing technical product design and integration of our products to meet the specific requirements of our customers. The Sales Application Engineer will collaborate closely with account managers, manufacturing engineers, and customer engineering teams to develop effective manufacturable solutions and troubleshoot any arising issues. This position is essential for ensuring that our products meet the high standards expected by our clients in both on-highway and off-highway markets. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and integrating exhaust products and systems tailored to customer specifications. You will generate and maintain detailed models of designs and system-level Bills of Materials, ensuring that all specifications for products, including 2D prints and engineering specifications, are accurately created. Additionally, you will initiate and coordinate the technical support work necessary for developing system components, which includes mechanical design, finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses, and various testing methods such as acoustical, flow, and vibration testing. Collaboration with manufacturing personnel is crucial to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction. You will ensure that Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles are implemented throughout the design development process, including conducting Design Quality Reviews (DQR), Design Verification Activities (DVA), and other design reviews. Maintaining and managing project schedules is also a key responsibility of this position. The role may require travel to customer and supplier sites for on-site testing and presentations of our technology, with travel expectations ranging from 10% to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with account management/customers to develop a workable fluid flow system layout and to identify and resolve system-level issues.
  • Act as engineering face to customer.
  • Design and integrate Exhaust products/systems for on-highway and off-highway markets to meet customer requirements.
  • Generate/maintain detailed models of designs and system-level Bill of Materials.
  • Generate specifications for product (2D prints, Engineering specifications, etc.).
  • Initiate and coordinate the technical support work required to develop system components against technical profile deliverables.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction.
  • Ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability) is implemented in the development of design (DQR, DVA, Design Reviews, etc.).
  • Maintain and manage project schedules.
  • Travel to customer and supplier sites as necessary, perform on-site testing, and present our technology.
  • Review/Approve/Process Customer Print Conformance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent educational degree is required.
  • Strong understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience related to product design using solid modeling tools.
