About the position

The Performance Foodservice team is dedicated to building strong relationships with a diverse range of local customers, including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. As a broadline distributor, Performance Foodservice not only delivers high-quality food products but also provides invaluable support to independent restaurant owners, helping them achieve their business goals through expert advice on operations, menu development, product selection, and strategic planning. This role is crucial in developing independent account business with a focus on profitability through new sales and account penetration. The position involves promoting and selling company-branded products while meeting brand sales objectives, and it may also include supporting customer service activities for regional and national chain customers to enhance the company's visibility and market share. In this role, you will be responsible for generating additional business by analyzing your sales territory and individual customer needs. This includes sampling products with existing and potential customers, planning a comprehensive sales strategy, managing your time and territory effectively, and conducting impactful sales presentations. You will work to grow sales and profit margins continuously to meet established goals, set up new customer accounts, and ensure customer satisfaction through exemplary service. Additionally, you will monitor accounts for compliance with credit terms and address any issues that arise, all while maintaining awareness of pricing trends to ensure competitive pricing in your territory. This position requires a collaborative approach, functioning as a team member within the department and organization to best serve the company and its customers.

Responsibilities

  • Generate additional business through analyzing sales territory and individual customers.
  • Sample products with existing and potential customers.
  • Plan general sales strategy including time and territory management.
  • Plan sales approach with individual customers and conduct effective sales presentations.
  • Grow sales and profit margins on an ongoing basis to meet established sales and margin goals.
  • Set up new customer accounts by determining pricing and working with the Credit Department for initial authorization.
  • Perform initial follow-up work with customers ensuring delivery and product satisfaction.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by providing exemplary service and coordinating efforts with other center personnel to resolve customer problems.
  • Build additional business with current customers through product penetration to maximize profitability of individual accounts.
  • Minimize accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and following up on any issues.
  • Maintain awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly on market-driven/commodity products, to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
  • 6-12 months sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Sales/Marketing, or related area
  • 1-2 years foodservice sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience
