About the position
The Salvation Army (TSA) Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) is seeking a dedicated Sales Associate/Material Handler for its Main San Diego (Otay Mesa) Thrift Store. This position is part of a no-fee program designed to assist individuals in their journey through rehabilitation. Employees play a crucial role in maintaining the effectiveness of the program, and their contributions are highly valued. The Retail Team at The Salvation Army is committed to serving the local community and promoting a positive shopping and donor experience. This role offers an opportunity to enhance customer service skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork while contributing to the success of the Adult Rehabilitation Program. As a Sales Associate/Material Handler, you will be responsible for ensuring that all customer and donor needs are met through genuine greetings and prompt assistance. Your duties will include stocking priced items for merchandising, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the store and donation area, and following all cash register policies in accordance with TSA procedures. You will also be responsible for receiving and unloading inventory, providing quality assurance by inspecting products, assisting donors with their donations, and performing various other tasks as assigned by management. This position requires a commitment to safety and compliance standards, as well as attendance at monthly store meetings.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring all Customers and Donors needs are met by a genuine greeting and giving prompt, and courteous assistance.
- Stocking priced items ready to be merchandised on the sales floor.
- Assisting in the maintenance of the store and donation area, to keep it clean, neat, and organized.
- Performing cleaning duties as assigned by Management.
- Following all POS/Cash Register Policies in accordance with TSA Policies and Procedures.
- Maintaining safety and compliance standards.
- Attending required Monthly Store Meetings.
- Receiving, unloading, and stocking incoming inventory items accurately and efficiently.
- Providing Quality Assurance by inspecting products for defects and damages.
- Courteously assisting the donor in the removal of all donated items from the donor's vehicle and providing a receipt.
- Separating and sorting all donated material into the proper containers, and properly stacking material as instructed by Management.
- Performing other written and/or verbal duties as may be assigned by Management.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED preferred.
- Must be able to accurately handle POS/Cash Register operations and cash transactions.
- Must pass background check, which will include Criminal History and Sex Offender Registry.
- Ability to communicate effectively with management, fellow store employees, customers, and donors.
