About the position

The Optical Technician (Optician) at The Eye Doctors is responsible for providing a world-class Total Patient Experience while maximizing retail sales and supporting patients' medical needs. This role involves dispensing and fitting glasses and contacts based on prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, ensuring that patient needs are met with the appropriate goods and services. Training is provided, and no prior medical or eyecare experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Promote frames and lenses recommended by the doctor to meet patient needs
  • Adjust and repair glasses
  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
  • Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients
  • Assist patients in selecting frames according to style and color
  • Educate and recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs
  • Accurately collect measurements such as bridge, eye size, and pupillary distance
  • Dispense patient orders and repair and adjust patient frames
  • Maintain frame standards with cleaning and organization
  • Demonstrate initiative in accomplishing practice goals
  • Create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow
  • Previous medical office experience preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients
  • Favorable result on background check as required by state
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Management preferred
  • ABO and NCLE certifications preferred, but not required
  • Previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
