About the position

The Sales Associate at Petco is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and ensuring the well-being of animals in the store. This role involves assisting customers with product selection, performing cashier duties, and maintaining store standards. The Sales Associate plays a key role in enhancing the guest experience and achieving sales goals while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide optimal guest experience services.
• Assist guests in the proper selection of merchandise in accordance with their identified needs.
• Demonstrate a high level of interest in the welfare, health, and proper handling of all animals.
• Perform cashiering duties.
• Perform related duties in support of the store attaining its assigned sales goal.
• Ensure merchandise is properly stocked and priced.
• Adhere to established operational guidelines and store policies and procedures.
• Evaluate guest inquiries and as needed refer to Guest Experience Leader and/or Leader on Duty.
• Ensure the health and well-being of live animals by providing the correct care in accordance with established Petco standards, policies and procedures.
• Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with an emphasis on company interests.
• Provide prompt and courteous service to all Petco guests by determining their needs and sharing product knowledge to suggest appropriate merchandise.
• Demonstrate knowledge in nutrition, Pals Rewards membership sign-up, and effective suggestive selling techniques to increase sales.
• Ensure an exceptional guest experience for all Omni-channel initiatives.
• Perform all aspects of point-of-sale service, including cash sales, credit and check sales, returns and exchanges.
• Assist in stocking and facing merchandise according to established standards.
• Complete cash register transactions and guest carry-out service for merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds per trip.
• Adhere to loss prevention policies.
• Assist in loading, unloading, and stocking merchandise according to established procedures.
• Ensure that store animals receive the highest quality care and maintain clean, safe, and secure habitats.
• Alert store leaders immediately if any animal is in need of medical attention or special care.
• Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image of the store.
• Assist store leadership in the opening/closing of the store as needed.
• Participate in the completion of quarterly and annual physical inventory counts.
• Adhere to and promote established safety procedures.

Requirements

• Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
• Knowledge of animal care and welfare standards.
• Ability to perform cashiering duties and handle cash transactions accurately.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and pull 2000 lbs using material handling equipment.
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform routine housekeeping tasks.
